Earl Thomas Conley

80's country star Earl Thomas Conley died on Wednesday this week at the age of 77.
His most productive period, in terms of chart hits & airplay was the 1980's, where his mix of a pop-soul inflection with country roots sounded fitted into the style of the music comming out of Nashville.

Re: New Stuff 2019

Just received the latest issue through the post. Checked out website. No indication of the magazine folding. Don't believe a word I tell you then and see if you get the issue after that. The April/May issue was to be the last one but they were in talks with possible new owners. Doesn't really bothe...

Re: Gretchen Peters UK Strings Attached Tour

Like the lady said who messaged her last year she should leave her politics in the car park. You only have to look at her Twitter feed. Country artistes have always dabbled in polotics. Going back to Woody Guthrie, in more modern times Merle Haggard made his name on right wing politics, Johnny Cash...

Re: Country Hits Radio

So far, I am enjoying this new station. A much better musical mix than Chris Country. A pretty good selection of contemporary country.

Re: Scott Walker

I think Rod McKuen had a UK TV show back in the day. I more recently saw him in a guest appearance off the original "Dolly" TV show from the early Seventies. The "Dolly" TV series was typical of TV in those days, but the outfits were great! The best of those shows was the one with Linda Ronstadt & E...

I've given up on outdoor festivals. No more mud for me! I am going to Wessex Folk Fest, but that is all round the harbour at Weymouth with lots of pubs to shelter in if it rains!

Re: New Stuff 2019

The Florida Georgia Line album is mostly mush, in spite of a 5 star review in Country Music Magazine. What is happening at that magazine? I'm not sure. It is not bad in some respects but is pretty corperate. In their reviews by and large, everything is wonderful. I still enjoy it, and it does alert...

Re: The Greatest Country Albums Ever Made

I think now we are in one of the worst eras for mainstream country. All those whiney, hip hoppy redneck boys with suspect accents. Some great artistes around now, but they are excluded from country radio. My favourite era formainstream country was the Eighties. I found a station on the net that play...
