Right show but it was the recording of Kinky Friedman and the Texas Jewboys that was held back. According to his biography:

There he was on the Austin City Limits stage on November 11, 1975, in his finest rhinestone suit with fur-lined guitar strap, bounding through his entire catalogue of double-entendre ditties. The band never sounded better (nor looked, well, weirder). The audience loved every lyrically devilish twist. There was only one problem. They said it couldn t be aired. There's still some mystery about exactly who they were who made the decision to pull the show.

Having seen the DVD it all feels pretty innocent .....

Correct, Kev.
I have a feeling it was Kinky's song about using a picture of Jesus as loo paper in a visit to a public convenience that caused the offence. The song was humorous, as is typical with Kinky, but was not "dissing" Jesus, simply faced with the dilema of no toilet paper on the roll but a photo of Jesus on the floor. "Do I save my soul or my pants?". I couldn't see what else could have caused offence. Kinky & his band were indeed a funny looking bunch, but the hippy-ish looking audience seemed to love it & all the piss- taking irony!

While the board is quiet have a go at this brain teaser ................

This one is not so much about the music but the actual TV series and you will need to be an oldie on here to get the answer.
Sorry Lo&m but the clue starts with you and ends with a Noah connection.

Lonesome Dove? TV western mini series. Lonesome - first word of Waylon's hit; Dove - the bird Noah released from the ark.

Well done lo&m.
I recently watched it again, one of the best Westerns ever.

I thought it was OK but enjoyed the book, by Larry McMurtry, more. The two prequel novels, "Dead Man's Walk" and "Comanche Moon", were also just as good though somewhat brutal in places.

Here's one: an iconic Brit police show recently rerun on ITV encore. It holds up extremely well due to the interplay between the two leads. Although un-named, the Squeeze song, Cool for Cats, gave a nod in their direction.

The former. Too easy, wasn't it?

How about this one ... a series from the late 70s starring an avuncular man and an avenging woman!

That would be the disappointing Linda Thorson version. Not as good as the classic Diana Rigg series.

I see where you're going here but it's mostly the wrong direction. You've got the avenging clue but the wrong era! And don't forget the 'avuncular' man!

Hmm, interesting. The Avengers featuring Linda T was late 70's. In it, Steed's relationship with Tara King was avuncular, ie, like that of an uncle, rather than a romantic lead. The obvious jump would be to Man from UNCLE but that had two male leads and no female lead. There was a short-lived Girl from UNCLE series but to my hazy memory, the male supporting character (Noel Harrison?) was of an age with the female lead. And I think, a little earlier than late 70's.

Just remembered. There was a late entry in the Avengers canon. It was a three-hander, two male leads and one female. Joanna Lumley might have been the female. Was one of the male leads Patrick McNee making a last go-round with the John Steed character?
