Leon Rausch

Post by kev » Fri May 31, 2019 3:31 pm

I was very sad to hear of the death of Leon Rausch recently. Leon is probably best known as vocalist with Bob Wills' Texas Playboys during parts of the 50s and 60s but had a fairly successful solo career beyond that and has rightly been seen as one of western swing's greatest voices for many years. I was lucky enough to meet Leon at the Legends of Western Swing festival in Wichita Falls last June. He was obviously unwell but was very patient with me whilst I gabbled away about his days with the Playboys and also managed to sit in with the Jason Roberts Band for half a dozen tracks (including the great take on "Milk Cow Blues", which he sang at my request, below).

A nice guy and a real loss to country music and particularly western swing.
