Red Simpson

I was sad to hear of the death of Red Simpson at age 81. Known for being one of the creators of the Bakersfield Sound (he wrote "Sam's Place" for Buck Owens), he'll probably be best remembered for his trucking songs and his album of songs dedicated to the Highway Patrol.

He was still playing the odd gig and was due to perform at the Ameripolitan Awards show in Austin next month that I'm going to.
